I have played for many years and I have owned Martins. In 2003 I bought a Santa Cruz OM and I still have it. Up until recently, I also had a beutiful-to-look-at Martin OM 42 and sweet all-mahoghany 0017 from 1952. They were all out , available to pick up and play, and (hopefully) in tune, and I would go and pick up the Santa Cruz every time. I sold the Martins and have never looked back. To my ear, the SC is deeper and cleaner in tone, and it has opened up beautifully in the past 20 years. Own the one you go to play first, that's become my rule on these great guitars.
Great video. I especially liked that you included Drop D to demonstrate the tonal differences. Thank you.
Thank you! We do like to include alternate tunings, including drop D on occasion to give a representation of the guitars flexability.
@@maplestreetguitars I appreciate your acknowledgement.
You play well, and thanks for making a video where you can listen well the sound of the guitar. I own (and I truly love) my Collings OM 2h, but the Bourgeois sounds great. Martin very nice guitar, but (in my opinion) other 2 superior
no difference at all. studio monitors and headphones. great consistency in playing.
The collegian in my opinion has a much bigger sound
My opinion the new Nationals sound better than the vintage. Made better now
10 years later ive just picked up an e10d-tc. Wow, what a guitar. Easily the best sounding acoustic ive owned in 35 years of playing. It sounds like a martin d18 but with more balanced mids like a takamine so sits perfectly in the mix for my recording. Its light and extremely resonant. Im blown away by it tbh.
Maple Street Guitars Why not use 2 sets of Magma GA100B80 strings for all Unison E Standard tuning?
We don't have access to Magma strings but we're a dealer for D'Addario and Elixir, both of which make 8-string baritone sets.
@@maplestreetguitars Maybe one day you will have access to Magma Strings perhaps
Obviously Carr needs to build a cab with a 10 and a 12 for this amp at 4ohms.
The 0-23C was the only one that didn’t make my headphones rattle!
Not tooo bad👍🏽
That D28 Satin has a huge sound to me. It sounded the best.
R.I.P. Russ! Wow, this hits close.
Maple Street Guitars You could convert it into a 12 string Nylon Baritone by using 2 sets of Strings. A set of Magma GCT-Bari Strings as the Main Strings & a set of Aquila 154C High B Tuning strings as the Octave Strings (Tie Guitar string Ball ends onto the ends of them). The nylon strings have less tension than Steel plus it'll sound rather lovely.
Like others, I learned another way years ago. I have since tried your method and have found it an easier and more secure way. Thanks for the great video! An unrelated question: where can I get a (leather?) guitar neck rest like the one in this video??
Thanks for your kind words! As for the neck rests, they actually came from some kind of firearm store. I believe they may have been gifted to us.
Too young, and a classy super human .. RIP
RIP Russell Malone!
The slinky end of the E string (and sometimes the A) is NOT for the tie block. Ive had string sets that specially tell you that.
❤️🎶🎵👍🎶🎵🙏❤️😎
MEGASTARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Both really nice guitars, the Alvarez sounded a little better and it is a nicer guitar with extra neck binding.
collings sounds phenomenal, bourgeois does sound better imo
Enjoyed it.
Thank you for the demo. Love both but the 10" for recording is insane. Really defines itself in feel and tone. Love it. Thanks again! 🙂🤘🙏
I play a 1930 Gibson L0 12-fret. It’s the best guitar I’ve ever played ❤️. I got a Waterloo WL-K for gigs and jams, and it is pretty close to my old Gibson. If the Waterloo is loved and played for nearly 100 years, it may well grow into the depths of beautiful sound like that of the vintage Gibson.
Awesome tips thank you.
We're glad to know that you found the video helpful! Thanks for watching!
Should have used Fender lt50. Would have been more equal.
Thanks y’all!
Eastman and a two rock beats a Collins and no amp
What a great demonstration between the two versions of a vintage j35
Thanks for the compliment! 🙂 And, of course, thanks for watching! Cheers, Lindsay @ Maple Street Guitars
@maplestreetguitars Have you tested new strings on this guitar? Perhaps, D-Odario strings, or Ernie Ball Earthwood Fosur Bronze strings?
Yes, when we got both of these guitars we restrung them both with D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings. We opted for 10-47 gauge to not overload the instruments with too much tension.
These all sound great. I have a Collings 002H 14-fret I love. It has the clarity displayed in this demo.
Both sound amazing but what I heard was the Alvarez had more personality and the Eastman was kinda run of the mill.
Well, probably one of theee best D-18, D-28 side-by-sides we've heard on studio monitors (not consumer monitors). Great job. Concur with most, the difference is almost indiscernable and probably wouldn't be noticed in the mix, unless a solo performance however, even then, most listeners wouldn't notice the subtle difference. Regardless, and again, great, outstanding demo.
The people that picked the Gibson would have picked anything with Gibson on the headstock. Just silly.
My favorite travel guitar isn't on this but it's the Breedlove companion.
Martin always wins. lol
What song is Lindsay playing at the very beginning? My fave is tiny bubbles!
I just purchased an Eastman T59V. It's a great guitar, and the finish on it looks great. It has a slimmer neck than the 335 or 535.
Bought the D-18 MD by choice. Sounds and plays great.
They all sound great to me. I would be happy with any one of them. Thanks
Son nicely Done!
The D-18 with the gloss is, to these ears, the superior of the four.
Martin for me :)
Questions from the inserted descriptions: What does “boosted eq” mean? What mode is “V73”? Is that possible? Thanks!
V73 should have been H73, sorry for the typo! Boosted EQ meant that the EQ was boosted rather than cut, so all the EQ controls were set past noon.
Hi John, it’s good to see you, this is Jason Baumgardner.
Hey Jason. Good to hear from you.
I’m a beginner and I have the lt25 but I was thinking of switching to the boss katana because of the flexibility in their app/software and the accessibility to all the presets. I like to play acoustic, rnb, blues, clean, rock etc. Do you think it would be a good idea to make the switch?
That's a bit of a lateral move though the Katana certainly has the advantage when it comes to power and a different workflow that might work better for you!
Sounds wonderful and balanced tone. How much $$$?
You can find it on our website! maplestreetguitars.com
@@maplestreetguitars I thought it would have cost more. Very nice.
Wow. I’m surprised! Thru my standard iPhone old fashioned plug in head phones, the D2H sounded warmer and more “round” on the high E string. I really figured the CJ would! Both exquisite, but I guess I’m used to what was the standard Collings trope of their dreadnoughts being much more High & Mid voiced, bordering on shrill if you weren’t careful. Mine is a fairly old one, built in May 1990. It’s opened up completely of course, and my playing has changed a lot in 34 years. Really wonderful eye (and ear!) opening video. Thanks.
I'm a Fender guy and was looking at a professional 2 telecaster ( sweet guitar) and then I found a G&L FULLERTON ASAT CLASSIC and the G&L is better built guitar than fender and it's on steroids ‼️ Both guitars are single coils Fender got too corporate
